Hysterical blindness:   “A sudden, temporary loss of vision caused by emotional stress.”   WebMD

You must vote for Hillary.  Trump. Trump. Trump.  Can’t you hear the beast’s footsteps?  Trump. Trump. Trump.  What’s that?  You plan to vote for a third party candidate in a Deep Blue State, which Trump will never win?  Can’t you hear?  Trump. Trump. Trump.  I don’t care if he can’t win in your state.  You still must vote for Hillary.  Trump. Trump. Trump.  And please, we beg you, don’t say anything negative about Hillary.  TRUMP. TRUMP. TRUMP.

A gruesome malady appears to be gripping Democrats, a blindness of soul and spirit, brought about by a hysterical reaction to the candidacy of Donald Trump.  Due to the Democrats’ advantages in the Electoral College, his policies and incompetence as a candidate, and the skepticism of the GOP’s power brokers, Trump has little chance of winning the presidency.  But analysis is not relevant here.  Fear rules!  People have lost their ability to see the landscape that lies before them.*  For example, Democrats in deeply blue states—which will never ever move into Trump’s electoral column—are making wild accusations against those who prefer to vote for a third party candidate in their states.  (Remember Nader?  You want Nader?  You obviously want to give the election to Trump.  You must be insane!)  Just the thought of someone not voting for Hillary sets Democratic hearts a flutter:  Trump, Trump, Trump..

Ginned up by a Democratic Establishment that wishes to make Hillary’s coattails as long as possible, Democrats have lost their ability to evaluate what a vote for Clinton actually means.  To protest Hillary Clinton’s untrustworthiness and her policies, even in Deep Blue States, leads to accusations akin to charges of devil worship.  But don’t forget, the Democratic Establishment was salivating over the possibility of running against Trump.  He would be for them a mark made in heaven.  They have known from Day 1 that it would be a great way to cement their power.  Of course, this wouldn’t be such a bad thing if Democrats were in a truly progressive party, but the Establishment’s love of Hillary is evidence that the party has in fact become GOP lite, because this is what you are served with Hillary on the domestic front.  And God help us in foreign affairs in which she is actually to the right, bizarrely enough, of Trump..

But hey, we are looking at an old tradition here.  Scare’em and hold’em.  This time around it only requires that we check our critical faculties at the door.

Trump. Trump. Trump.

* There are scenarios in which Trump could win, for example, if Hillary is indicted and the Democrats still run her, but then it’s on the Democratic Party’s head, and there is little we can do.  Also, if the economy tanks in the next few months it could mean trouble.  But the latter is highly unlikely, and it’s not clear that Trump would win even in this situation.

  1. If we can vote FOR the Greater Good, why bother with anything less?

The fact is that each of the duopoly parties is a minority party, neither commands a majority of the electorate — indeed, far from it.

This means that neither the Democratic or Republican wing of the Corporatist Party has a lock on victory, let alone “owns” the 43% of voters who are independents.

And Dr. Jill Stein is reminding us over and over that 42 million voters are serving a debt sentence — a plurality that, combined with other voters, can defeat the Corporatist Party in this very activist electoral year.
